چکیده

Walking speed was timed for male and female pedestrians on a public sidewalk with fast, slow, or no music playing in the background (n = 20 per condition). Pedestrians in the fast music condition walked more rapidly than those in the other two conditions. Slow music did not reduce walking speed, relative to the no music condition. Walking speed did not differ by gender in any of the three conditions. The findings support elements of Mayfield's organismic theory of activation effects.

Effect of group resistance exercise with exciting music on spasticity, muscle strength and walking for children with cerebral palsy

Introduction: There is a strong correlation between muscle weakness and the mobility children with cerebral palsy. For this reason, the focus of the intervention programs has been changed to to resistance exercises. The purpose of this study was effect of group resistance exercise with exciting music on spasticity, muscle strength and walking ability for children with cerebral palsy. Methods: T...

Tempo and walking speed with music in the urban context

The study explored the effect of music on the temporal aspects of walking behavior in a real outdoor urban setting. First, spontaneous synchronization between the beat of the music and step tempo was explored. The effect of motivational and non-motivational music (Karageorghis et al., 1999) on the walking speed was also studied. Finally, we investigated whether music can mask the effects of vis...

Activating and Relaxing Music Entrains the Speed of Beat Synchronized Walking

Inspired by a theory of embodied music cognition, we investigate whether music can entrain the speed of beat synchronized walking. If human walking is in synchrony with the beat and all musical stimuli have the same duration and the same tempo, then differences in walking speed can only be the result of music-induced differences in stride length, thus reflecting the vigor or physical strength o...

A home-based program using patterned sensory enhancement improves resistance exercise effects for children with cerebral palsy: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND Neurologic music therapy has demonstrated improved walking performance in persons with neurologic disease; however, little evidence supports the use of music with functional resistance exercise to improve motor capacity and daily functions for children with cerebral palsy. OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of additional patterned sensory enhancement (PSE) music combined with exer...

Exploring cued and non-cued motor imagery interventions in people with multiple sclerosis: a randomised feasibility trial and reliability study

Background Motor imagery (MI) is increasingly used in neurorehabilitation to facilitate motor performance. Our previous study results demonstrated significantly improved walking after rhythmic-cued MI in people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS). The present feasibility study was aimed to obtain preliminary information of changes in walking, fatigue, quality of life (QoL) and MI ability following c...
